It controls well and Vector Unit's expertise with water-based racing games really shows.. Truly one of the most fun racing games I've ever played.It's a lot like Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 IMO, but with futuristic hydrojet racing and it's awesome.I would easily recommend it to arcade racing game fans.. It's like Jet Moto and Wave Race had a baby. The AI is ridiculously hard, and it will kill you on corners (you slow down while they don't lose a single bit of speed). Other than that, it's a fun game. Overall it's a blast to race through this game.Here's a few things I wish I was told when I started this game:-The "boost start" timing is half a second before the lights turn green. Couldn't get that one down until I was already level 15.-Be sure to double check your graphics settings so they don't get auto-lowered. That being said I have 10 hours in on the lower graphics settings and barely noticed.-The difference between easy and normal is definitely noticeable, but I do recommend playing on normal (the middle difficulty).-There are shortcuts.-Don't be a spaz when trying to trigger the moves/emotes. Especially on a steam controller.The game consists of a couple game modes, 9 AMAZING maps, several vehicles, personal skill upgrades, vehicle upgrades, and a campaign that tweaks the difficulty up as you go through it.I do need to stress that even though they only have 9 maps I never got tired of them, they look amazing even at low graphics setting levels.For the completionists the last few levels consist of all game modes, all maps, and all of the toughest opponents, and by that point of the game it will kinda feel like a slog to get through; At least it was for me. Other than that it's looking pretty easy to go through and get all the achievements.. There are quite a few unnecessarily negative reviews for this game. From what I've read of these, they're either from followers of the series who don't feel that this game adds much to previous games, other than new tracks, or people who feel that it's too short or arcade-feeling.I feel that these negative comments are a bit unreasonable.First of all, given the cost of the game at full cost, there's a lot of playability and enjoyment to be had from the game. If it doesn't add too much to previous games, then that's just because there's no reason to change something if it's not broken. If you bought a previous game and enjoyed it, you'll probably enjoy this. I personally haven't played a previous Riptide game, but I love how this plays and would definitely buy a future version with new tracks, racers, jetskis etc.Secondly, the complaints about this being too arcade-like are highly confusing. Why would it possibly be a negative if it plays like an arcade game? If you don't like arcade-style racers, then don't get this game. I love that it was so easy to get into but yet has a decent learning curve for improvement, particularly as you learn the tracks and the tricks.Overall, this game is highly enjoyable at full price, but if you can get it reduced (i.e., during a sale or as part of a bundle), then it's an underappreciated gem of a game. It's not a game that will steal your life away or keep you going long into the lonely nights, but if you're expecting it to do that, you really need to learn about how to form realistic live goals.Best advice: play this locally or online with family/friends.. I have played Riptide before but I must say this one I like the best, it offers many options during career mode, such as competition,freestyle, time trials and so on. The base game offers other things such as co-op with your friends, or you can play online if you have no friends.lol. The GFX are pretty good, they are Nintendoesque, and the GFX are probably as good as the games on the Wii U. It automatically senses your Graphics card capability, so no fussing around with settings. I have an Nvidia 1070 GTX so I could play on Ultra settings, they look fantastic on my 4K monitor. It's not the greatest and most perfect game, and not a huge amount of tracks but the graphics look great, the music is suitable for the gameplay, and it's just a lot of fun to play either career, co-op or online. I would definitely recommend this game, especially the price point $16.99 you actually get the best bang for your buck if your into this genre. I give it 2 thumbs up! Thanks to all the devs that created it. :D. I feel that this game is well done in all aspects except one... the AI is absolutely awful and feels like I'm playing a game from the 90s.It doesn't matter what you do they will always be right behind you ready to overtake the moment you over or understeer a corner. AI is one of the most important things to me when it comes to a racing game so I cannot recommend this...
